Welcome to the historical lakeside home of Forrest Bird. In 1956, inspired by his love and knowledge of aircraft, Forrest created the first ventilator prototype. As a true "tinkerer," the first attempt was constructed using three tin strawberry shortcake containers. From there, the theory and construction evolved to produce the universally known Mark 7 ventilator and the Baby Bird. He is credited with saving thousands of lives.
These are the original buildings where Dr Bird invited doctors from around the world to stay and learn about his inventions.
